FIVE YEAR PLAN 2003-2008

 

I.               CONFERENCE  (see additional duties in Conference section of Handbook)

A.            Continue to develop and structure conference program to meet the needs of the membership at all levels

B.            Continue to develop forum for presentation of field research.

C.            Select a site th at will meet the needs of the membership.

D.            Continue exhibitors/materials as resources.

II.             CURRICULUM

A.            Assessment/Accountability

1.             Develop recommendations for equal standing of performance evaluation versus written test evaluation

2.             Develop guidelines for accountability system assessment in theatre

3.             Develop and maintain a resource site of performance rubrics to be housed on website.

4.             Develop and maintain a library of lesson plans and Best Practices to be available on website.

B.            Secondary

1.             Continue to develop statewide secondary curriculum leadership guideline book based on national organization curriculum guidelines yearly

2.             Continue to advocate for continued inclusion of theatre courses in state high school graduation requirements and Florida Scholars' Program

3.             Advocate inclusion of theatre courses for the Gold Seal Scholarship (already accomplished for academic drama courses)

4.             Develop interdisciplinary arts across the curriculum with an emphasis on Drama methodology as a tool to assist academic area teachers in teaching their curriculum.

5.             Develop using the techniques of technology and multi-media

C.            Elementary

1.             Develop specialized elementary theatre curriculum and advocate acceptance by the state and/or districts

2.             Develop discipline-based curriculum guidelines and advocate acceptance by the state and/or districts

3.             Develop interdisciplinary arts across the curriculum (see secondary changes)

4.             Develop using the techniques of technology and multi-media

D.            Professional Development

1.             Continue to follow the model established by the DOE program, FLOAT, design and implement a program for theatre education mentorship

2.             Continue to provide opportunities annually for developing mentors from within the membership.

3.             Continue to provide professional resources for conferences and workshops

E.             Resources

1.             Continue to maintain and expand a state resource directory for members of arts supporters to include artists-in-residence, consultants, speakers, performers for all levels, faculty through business professionals

2.             Continue to develop list of national organizations and resources

3.             Continue to circulate and update curriculum resources, i.e. bibliographies, computer program lists, vendor guides, video guides, etc. for membership 

F.             Technology

1.             Develop a resource bank of technical suppliers and experts in the field, including a list of web resources for technical problem solving.

2.             Develop and provide lists and descriptions of leading hardware and software currently used in the field.

3.             List and describe leading hardware and software currently used in the industry and colleges

4.             Identify models for multiplexing assets at the high school and college level

III.           FINANCIAL

A.            Execute the annual budget as approved by the Board

B.            Develop budget and fees for annual conference based on current figures

 IV.           MEMBERSHIP

A.            Develop and nurture ongoing recruitment of members at all levels, i.e. professional, university, community college, secondary, elementary and theatre/theatre education majors

B.            Continue pre- and post- conference membership

C.            Develop recruitment tactics in affiliation with the other committees

D.            Develop and maintain communication with retirees and alumni.

E.             Develop discounts for the membership

 V.             NOMINATIONS AND AWARDS

A.            Provide awards forms to membership in spring for the upcoming year with the conference mailing and/or Email

B.            Prepare appropriate annual nominations slate

C.            Continue to develop recognition for corporations and non-educational support areas.

D.            Continue to recognize outstanding educators and administrators

VI.           PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

A.            Work towards acceptance of K-12 theatre certification

B.            Work towards theatre certification as the sole designated in-field certification to teach theatre courses

C.            Explore and design and implement certification and recertification opportunities which FATE could sponsor/facilitate for our members

D.            Advocate for new, clearer certification requirements with DOE

E.             Develop guidelines addressing the minimum standards for teacher supplements/stipends, class size; maximum size allowable, theatre/performance facilities, textbooks and supplemental resources, job titles and descriptions, classroom performance and scheduling.

F.             Educate membership about rights and responsibilities of theatre education to include philosophy and freedom of expression in order to promote the most positive impact in the school and community.

G.            Continue to evaluate the needs and status of theatre education on all levels, K – University, in Florida and nationwide and publish the results on the website and in newsletter [through surveys]

H.           Establish and maintain a data base with curriculum committee and FATE website to assist members with selection of plays appropriate for their school and community

VII.         PUBLIC RELATIONS

A.            Develop and maintain a continuous scrapbook of previous years activities to be displayed at each annual conference and other public exposures as appropriate.

B.            Continually solicit members for graphic and anecdotal donations to the archives.

C.            Continue to publicize positive aspects of theatre education through newsletter, brochures, press releases, and web pages.

D.            Continue to cultivate understanding and enhance appreciation and awareness of theatre education through the newsletter, electronic news, and display materials.

E.             Continue to publicize organization of goals and activities, using data from Historian, including a repository of graphics and print sources.

F.             Continue publication of newsletter and maintenance of website, to include a Web Manager who works with the Web Master to provide and oversee information for timely posting on site

G.            Continue to update and publish Officers' Handbook

H.            Continue to maintain traveling display board and banner for statewide exhibits.

I.              Expand web site to be more of an information center including a “members only” area and all committees.

 VIII.       SCHOLARSHIPS

A.            Continue to encourage upper level study in field through the promotion and development of scholarships to fund continued study by educators

B.            Provide scholarship forms to membership in spring for the upcoming year with the conference mailing and/or Email

C.            Provide scholarship opportunities for theatre educators and high school and college students who pursue theatre education as a major
