ATE was founded in 1979 by a group of International Thespian Society sponsors who accepted responsibility for developing a greater awareness of the performing arts in schools throughout the state of Florida. FATE was established to focus attention on theatre arts as an essential part of the curriculum and a component in the education of every young person.

FATE advocates that every Florida student be educated in theatre and dramatic arts by qualified theatre arts educators.

FATE will accomplish its mission by:

* Developing and providing a systematic exchange of theatre education information.

* Strengthening and promoting theatre and drama education in life skills.

* Establishing and maintaining programs that recognize achievement in or contributions to theatre education.
